Mozambique - Tropical Cyclone IDAI and Floods UPDATE (ECHO 04 Apr 2019)Thu, 04 Apr 2019 11:27:00As of 3 April, the death toll stands at 598 and 1 600 injured. The number of cholera cases has increased to 1 428, of which 1 218 in Beira (with one dead), 66 in Dondo (with one dead) and 144 in Nhamatanda. The vaccination campaign has been launched with 900 000 cholera vaccines provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and 11 Cholera Treatment Centres. At least 131 000 are displaced in 136 sites in Sofala (109 199 people), Manica (14 047), Zambezia (5 235) and Tete (2 655). In addition, 62 153 houses have been totally destroyed, 33 139 partially and 15 784 flooded. The EU Civil Protection Team of 11 experts from seven EU Member States (Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, and Slovenia) continues to support the coordination of relief operations in Mozambique. More than 100 additional specialists from at least 16 countries are supporting the humanitarian response. Over the next 24 hours, weather conditions are expected to improve over Tete, Zamb eacute;zia, Manica and Sofala provinces. The European Commission's Copernicus Emergency Management Service has published 33 satellite maps for Mozambique (EMSR348).(hide)

The most affected department is Distrito Capital, where several neighborhoods of Asuncion have been flooded by the overflowing Paraguay river. As of 4 April at 8.00 UTC, one person was reported dead (in Santa Ana neighborhood, Asuncion) and at least 2 000 people displaced across the area. The Municipality of Asuncion has declared a state of emergency over the next 90 days. Over the next 24 hours, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast for Asuncion area.(hide)

Iran - Flash floods UPDATE (ECHO 04 Apr 2019)Thu, 04 Apr 2019 11:27:00The death toll after heavy rains, floods and landslides that have been affecting northern, western and south-western parts of Iran continues to increase. As of 4 April at 8.00 UTC, 62 people are reported to have died and hundreds injured. Tens of thousands of displaced people are sheltering in the open and food and non-food items are urgently needed. Immediate assistance has been provided by UNICEF IRAN to the affected provinces Fars, Lorestan and Gorestan. 60 villages in Lorestan are under flood water, 78 intercity roads have been blocked, 2 199 rural roads and 84 bridges have been damaged. Over the next 24 hours, moderate rain is forecast in the northern provinces.(hide)

Nepal - Severe weather UPDATE (ECHO 04 Apr 2019)Thu, 04 Apr 2019 11:27:00The strong wind storm which hit Bara and Parsa districts in province number 2 on 31 March has left 28 people dead (including 6 children) and more than 2 404 families (approximately 14 424 people) affected. A total of 2 404 buildings, including three schools are damaged and shelter is urgently needed as temperatures rise in the Terai, and vulnerable populations struggle difficulties in coping with the heat. Food items (including baby food), are also needed. Local charity organisations and clubs are providing the affected communities with hot meals. Torches, hygiene kits, baby kits, toilet and sanitation facilities, kitchen utensils, and clothes are also needed. The wind storm has damaged a huge number of electricity poles in Bara and Parsa and rural roads are blocked. Electricity is down, and schools are closed. Agriculture has also been affected with families loosing stored grains and standing crops ready for harvest. The Nepal Red Cross, UN agencies, and international organisations are supporting local and provincial governments, alongside civil society.(hide)
